Christmas Eve 2006

Christmas Eve finds the Whelan clan passing out their family gifts. It has been our tradition to open individual gifts on Christmas Eve and then Santa's gifts on Christmas morning. I must admit, it is nice to make Christmas last a little longer. It takes so long for the day to finally arrive and whammo, it's over like that. I have never been much of a holiday person but I love to see the excitement in the kids faces as they open each gift. They seem to appreciate every gift, no matter how small, as long as it's not clothes...haha. With Elizabeth recently turning 12 and Alex turning 11 in March, it wont be long before they no longer believe in Santa (heaven forbid) and I want them to stay kids for a while longer. Elizabeth "knows" the truth she says but Alex is afraid NOT to believe. I can see the indecision on his face and it's really cute. Maybe I can get one more year out of them...until next year, stay safe and love to all!
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Tonite the kids began the yearly task of decorating the Christmas tree. I am not a very good elf and spent most of the time doing other things and occasionally snapping a picture or two. This photo captures 2 of my favorites, Elizabeth and my kitty Tony. Alex was acting goofy, as usual, so I will add him to another post when I can catch him in a less "active" mode. He was a little wound up because we had just returned from his schools winter concert. Alex was a reindeer, antlers and all. Unfortunately he was too far in the back of the group to get a great shot. That was just fine with him as he says he doesn't plan on being an actor anyway. Still a very cute play and as much as he complained he still had fun. Elizabeth is still decorating and Alex is making cookies. Me? I am going to bed, big final exam tomorrow morning...Wish me luck and I will wish all of you a Merry Christmas and happy and healthy New Year!
